Light-heavyweight Contender Willy Hutchinson Scores Career-Defining Victory
Light-heavyweight contender Willy Hutchinson scored the biggest win of his career, outpointing Craig Richards in a closely contested bout in Saudi Arabia. Despite being the pre-fight favorite, Richards was unable to overcome the impressive performance of the Scottish boxer.
“What a tough fight, but I rose to the occasion,” said Hutchinson after the victory. “I got the job done, and now everyone can see what I’m all about. I’m just grateful to be here – every day is a blessing from God, not just winning titles and being with my friends. This is not even a team; these are my friends outside of boxing.”
Hutchinson’s triumph kickstarted a string of successes for Queensberry Promotions, who emerged victorious in all five of their matchups against Matchroom on the night.
“I’m having fun winning titles while enjoying myself,” the 18-1 (13 KOs) fighter remarked. “We rose to the occasion, and we will rise again. He’s a hell of a fighter, and he can fight for fun, but listen, I’m coming into my own now. I’ve always had the strength and power, and you’ve just seen it there – I’m a level above and ready to push on and become a world champion.”
When asked about his future plans, Hutchinson expressed his openness to facing any opponent. “Anybody,” he stated. “I think I showed myself on the world scene today, so anyone. Let’s fight them all.” The Carstairs native also emphasized the importance of enjoying the sport, saying, “First and foremost, I fully enjoyed myself. That was one of the things I wanted to do. I wanted to go in and half enjoy the things that I’m doing. Because what is all this for if you’re not enjoying what you’re doing? I beat him, and I beat him good, didn’t I? And I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”
