Welterweight Contender Cody Crowley Forced to Withdraw from Highly Anticipated IBF Title Fight
In a disappointing turn of events, welterweight boxer Cody Crowley will no longer face IBF titleholder Jaron “Boots” Ennis on July 13 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. According to reports, Crowley was forced to withdraw from the highly anticipated title fight after failing a pre-fight eye exam, as first disclosed by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com.
Crowley, a 31-year-old undefeated fighter with a record of 22-0 and 9 knockouts, was eagerly anticipating his first-ever shot at a world title. The Canadian boxer had been aiming to break an 18-month period of inactivity following his majority decision victory over Abel Ramos. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Crowley has managed just one bout per year on average.

On the other side of the ring, 26-year-old Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) was set to make his debut as an IBF welterweight titleholder after the sanctioning body elevated him to the championship position following Terence Crawford’s belt forfeiture. Ennis, who recently signed with Matchroom Boxing, was eager to showcase his skills in front of his hometown fans in Philadelphia.
With Crowley’s withdrawal, Ennis now finds himself in search of a new opponent for the upcoming title defense. BoxingScene has reached out to the involved parties but has yet to receive any official comments on the situation.
