Undefeated Super Middleweight Contender Erik Bazinyan Headlines Tonight’s Boxing Card in Montreal
Montreal, Canada – May 2, 2023: Undefeated super middleweight contender Erik Bazinyan returns to the ring tonight in the 10-round main event against Shakeel Phinn at the Casino de Montréal in Montreal, Canada. Bazinyan, who is ranked in the top 10 by all four major sanctioning organizations, is aiming to put himself in line for an eventual world title opportunity.
In the eight-round lightweight co-feature, unbeaten Canadian prospect Avery Martin Duval takes on Argentina’s Ezequiel Palaversic. Bazinyan (32-0, 23 KOs) has spent the majority of his 10-year career competing in Canada after moving from Armenia at the age of 16. His most recent outing was a third-round stoppage victory against Billi Godoy in January 2024.
“Bazinyan is a rising star in the super middleweight division, and this fight is a crucial step towards a world title shot,” said his promoter.
Phinn (26-3-1, 17 KOs) looks to extend his winning streak to six and will be returning to the ring after a one-round knockout win over Rafael Sosa Pintos last October. The only defeats on Phinn’s record have come against unbeaten fighters.
In the lightweight co-main event, Duval (10-0-1, 6 KOs), a 22-year-old Canadian prospect, will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record against Palaversic (8-2-1, 4 KOs), who is seeking to bounce back from a split draw against Alexander Gustavo Dominguez in December.
The action-packed fight card from Montreal will be streamed live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
