Heavyweight Boxing Clash: Fury Exercises Rematch Clause, Set to Face Usyk in October
In a highly anticipated move, Tyson Fury has decided to exercise his rematch clause and face newly-crowned undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk once again. Promoter Frank Warren of talkSPORT has confirmed that the second bout between the two titans will take place in October, likely in Saudi Arabia.
The previous working date for the rematch had been October 12, and Warren stated that the fight is already “signed for” and will indeed happen. “He’s back here,” Warren said, referring to Fury’s current recuperation and his strong desire for the rematch.
After their initial clash, Fury had not immediately committed to the rematch, stating, “I’ve just had a fight. As you can see from my face. I’m pretty busted up… He’s busted up too.” However, it seems the former heavyweight champion has now made the decision to exercise his contractual right to a rematch.
In their first encounter, Usyk claimed Fury’s WBC title, adding it to the collection of belts he had won from Anthony Joshua, including the WBA, WBO, and IBF crowns. This victory made Usyk the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years.
It is worth noting that the upcoming rematch may not feature all four belts, as the IBF is reportedly poised to strip Usyk and award their title to the winner of the June 1 fight between Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois.
Boxing enthusiasts and fans worldwide eagerly await the highly anticipated clash between the two heavyweight titans, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, set to take place in October.
