Denny Retains European Middleweight Title with Technical Decision over Cash
On Saturday, March 25th, at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England, Tyler Denny successfully defended his European middleweight title with a technical decision victory over Felix Cash.
The fight was halted in the fifth round after Cash suffered a severe cut above his right eye, which the ringside doctor deemed too severe to continue. Prior to the stoppage, Denny had been in control, winning the opening four rounds on the judges’ scorecards.
Cash, a 31-year-old former British champion, was making his return to the ring after an 18-month layoff. His performance was a mixed bag, as he struggled to find his rhythm early, while also displaying flashes of the power and aggression that saw him stop Denzel Bentley three years ago. However, the ring rust ultimately proved costly, and Denny capitalized.
“Denny maintained his dominance throughout. The southpaw champion landed clean power punches, including a devastating left hook that rocked Cash as the fourth round concluded. His high-paced, high-contact style overwhelmed the challenger, who was unable to mount a sustained offense.”
With the unanimous decision victory, Denny’s European middleweight title reign continues. The ‘perennial underdog’ has now established himself as one of the division’s top contenders, having also claimed a notable win over Italy’s Matteo Signani last November.
As for Cash, the defeat will prompt some soul-searching, as he looks to regain the form that made him a British champion. The 18-month hiatus appears to have taken a toll, and he will need to regroup and reassess his path forward in the highly competitive European middleweight landscape.
