Boxing Fans Treated to Standout Performances from Top Rank’s Rising Stars in Newark
In a thrilling night of boxing at Newark’s Prudential Center, two of Top Rank’s promising young talents delivered impressive victories, solidifying their status as future stars of the sport.
Keyshawn Davis Prevails in Tough Test
Keyshawn Davis, the lightweight contender, faced a tough test in veteran Mexican boxer Miguel Madueno, who entered the bout with a 31-3 record. However, Davis proved up to the challenge, winning a unanimous decision with scores of 99-91 across the board.
“He was tougher than I expected,” Davis admitted after the fight. “This was the toughest, most physical professional fight I’ve had, but I had fun in there. I’m glad he [Madueno] did that tonight, and I’m definitely going to take a lot from it and go back to the drawing board.”
The Norfolk native was grateful for the valuable experience and emphasized his willingness to face any top names in the division, stating, “The fans want to see it, especially at this point, so let’s make it happen with anybody. I’m not mentioning no more names; just send them a contract, and I’ll bet they’ll sign it.”
Abdullah Mason Dominates in Co-Main Event
In the co-main event, rising southpaw prospect Abdullah Mason continued to solidify his status as one of boxing’s rising stars. The 14-0 (12 KOs) fighter put on a dominant performance, flooring Puerto Rican Luis Lebron twice in the second round before Lebron’s corner decided to stop the fight in the third.
Mason’s fast-handed combinations drew praise from former champion Timothy Bradley, who likened the young prospect’s style to that of the legendary Roy Jones Jr. When asked about the ease of his victory, Mason simply replied, “Out of the ring it is, so we can make it easy inside. We can have some fun in there come fight night.”
With these impressive displays, Davis and Mason have further cemented their places as two of the most promising young talents in the sport, captivating boxing fans and setting the stage for their continued rise to the top of the lightweight and welterweight divisions, respectively.
