Swedish Southpaw Anthony Yigit Announces Retirement at 32
Anthony Yigit, a 29-4-1 (10 KOs) southpaw boxer, has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 32. Yigit was a fringe lightweight and junior-welterweight contender, having won two fights since losing a 12-round decision to Denys Berinchyk, the same boxer who defeated him in the 2012 Olympics, in August 2023.
“I express my decision to pursue other aspects of my life and thank my supporters for the opportunities.”
These comeback victories, both via six-round verdicts over David Rajuili and Jamshid Nazari, were relatively low-key affairs. The other losses on Yigit’s record – to Keyshawn Davis, Rolando Romero, and for the IBF junior-welterweight title, Ivan Baranchyk – all came in his biggest fights.
Notable Achievements
Yigit was a former European junior welterweight champion and can boast points wins over Sandor Martin, Lenny Daws, Joe Hughes, and Armando Robles.
Yigit’s retirement announcement came via social media in the form of a screen shot of a message, where he expressed his decision to pursue other aspects of his life and thanked his supporters for the opportunities.
