Sunny Edwards Seeks Redemption Against Adrian Curiel in Highly Anticipated Bout
In a highly anticipated return to the ring, boxing sensation Sunny Edwards is set to prove his mettle against Adrian Curiel on June 29th. The 28-year-old Edwards, who suffered his first professional defeat in December against Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, is determined to reclaim his position as one of the world’s top flyweight contenders.
Dalton Smith, a fellow boxer and close friend of Edwards, believes that the loss against Rodriguez has only strengthened his stablemate’s resolve. “Not one little bit,” Smith responded when asked if he had seen any changes in Edwards’ self-belief since the defeat. “He believes in himself, and so he should. He’s a competitive fighter. That’s what happens at the top level, when you’re boxing against, pound for pound, the best fighters.”
“Even though he let his body rest, he was still in the gym. We didn’t have to miss him too much. He was straight back in, and he’s in Tenerife at the minute with my dad, finishing off his camp. His spirits are high and he’s ready to get back in there,” Dalton Smith assured.
The fight against Curiel, who lost the IBF light-flyweight title to Sivenathi Nontshinga in February, presents an opportunity for Edwards to re-establish himself as a dominant force in the division. “I’m expecting a big performance from Sunny. He’s been looking on fire in the gym, and he don’t shy away from nothing,” Dalton Smith said, expressing his confidence in his stablemate’s ability to deliver an impressive performance.
The bout will take place on the undercard of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez’s WBC super flyweight title defense against Juan Francisco Estrada, adding further intrigue to the event. “It’s nice to see my stablemate get right up there with the top, and I’m expecting a big performance from Sunny. A big performance next, in Arizona, and he’ll push on for another world title,” Dalton Smith concluded.
