Stevenson Defends Lightweight Title in Newark Homecoming
Shakur Stevenson, the three-division champion, is set to defend his WBC lightweight world title in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday, July 6, at the Prudential Center.
In the main event, Stevenson will face off against German Olympian Artem Harutyunyan. The co-feature bout will see O’Shaquie Foster defend his WBC junior lightweight world title against Brazilian Olympic gold medalist and three-time world title challenger Robson Conceição. Kicking off the ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ telecast at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT will be a 10-round lightweight matchup between rising star Keyshawn Davis and Mexican veteran Miguel Madueño.
“There is a unique connection between Shakur and the City of Newark, and we are thrilled he’s returning for another hometown appearance against a tough opponent in Artem Harutyunyan,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum.
Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs), the 26-year-old southpaw, has won world titles in three weight classes during his seven-year professional career. He most recently captured the WBC lightweight crown by outpointing Dominican puncher Edwin De Los Santos last November.
Harutyunyan (12-1, 7 KOs), the 33-year-old German Olympian, will be making his first world title shot after a competitive loss to Frank Martin in his U.S. debut last July.
In the co-feature, Foster (22-2, 12 KOs) will defend his WBC junior lightweight title against Conceição (18-2-1, 9 KOs), the Brazilian Olympic gold medalist who has faced several top champions.
The action-packed card will also feature rising prospects Abdullah Mason and Damian “Polish Hussar” Knyba in separate undercard bouts streaming live on ESPN+.
