Robert Meriwether Aims to Showcase Elite Sparring Experiences Against Undefeated Opponent
Robert Meriwether hopes his high-level sparring sessions with some of the best fighters in the sport will propel him to victory against undefeated Victor Manuel Lopez this Wednesday. The bout is part of ProBox TV’s “Wednesday Night Fights” series at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida.
Meriwether, who holds a 5-0 record with 2 knockouts, has shared the ring with the likes of Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis, and Shakur Stevenson. The 22-year-old believes these invaluable experiences have molded him into the fighter he aspires to become.
“I have been sparring them since 15, 16 years old – just learning from those guys,” Meriwether told BoxingScene. “It has taught me a lot. I have seen what those champions have got. Tank [Gervonta Davis] has power, Devin has a great jab, and Shakur is very smart with his distance, and Jorge Linares is really fast.”
This will be Meriwether’s first six-round fight, as well as his toughest test to date against the undefeated Lopez. However, the young prospect remains confident in his abilities, insisting that his high-caliber sparring has prepared him for this moment.
“I have been able to put [my sparring experiences with elite fighters] into my arsenal and use it for myself,” Meriwether said. “Seeing that worth ethic that [Davis] has had throughout his career has rubbed off on me. With my dad, we are always training. We are training night, morning – it doesn’t matter what time. We get in the gym and make sure we get that workout in.”
Meriwether’s determination to learn from the best in the sport and his tireless work ethic have set the stage for a compelling matchup against the undefeated Lopez this Wednesday on ProBox TV.
