Promising Heavyweight Prospect Itauma Shines on Fury-Usyk Undercard
On the undercard of the highly anticipated undisputed heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 19-year-old heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma provided a captivating demonstration of his considerable potential by stopping the overmatched Ilja Mezencev in just two rounds.
Itauma, who is co-promoted by Fury’s team, recorded his ninth professional victory in dominant fashion. Throughout the opening round, the young British boxer hurt his German opponent, Mezencev, with a series of powerful left hooks and a forceful push that sent the 28-year-old toward the bottom rope. Although the referee, Howard Foster, did not award a knockdown, Itauma’s dominance was already evident.
“The decisive moment came 50 seconds into the second round when Itauma unleashed an eye-catching combination that culminated in a devastating right-hand punch, which heavily dropped Mezencev. Despite managing to return to his feet, Mezencev remained unsteady, prompting Foster to intervene and stop the contest before another punch was thrown.”
This seventh victory inside the distance for Itauma underscores his impressive finishing ability.
Chamberlain’s Undercard Success
Preceding Itauma’s triumph, another British boxer, Mark Chamberlain, had already secured a first-round stoppage win over Joshua Oluwaseun Wahab in their lightweight contest on the same undercard. Wahab had been knocked down once before the referee called a halt to the fight after two minutes and 42 seconds, with Wahab requiring medical attention.
