Boxing Legend Diego Corrales to be Inducted into Hall of Fame Posthumously in 2024
The International Boxing Hall of Fame has announced that the late Diego Corrales will be inducted posthumously over the course of the 2024 induction weekend. Corrales, who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2007, left an indelible mark on the sport of boxing before his untimely demise.
Corrales’ most famous moment came in 2005, when he engaged in one of the greatest fights of all time against Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas. Despite being badly hurt, Corrales rallied from the brink to stop Castillo in the 10th round, delivering a performance that will forever be etched in the minds of those who witnessed it ringside.
“I put that on the level of Barrera-Morales I,” said boxing analyst Chris Algieri. “It’s the highest level war you’re ever going to get. Both these guys are fantastic fighters and for them to go tit for tat the way that they did, hurting each other, big power from both men, to be able to hurt each other throughout, it was drama. It was like watching a play. It was insane.”
Algieri praised Corrales’ unwavering spirit, noting that the late fighter “gave himself every fight” and “left a lot in the ring,” never holding anything back. “I don’t think he would have done it any other way,” Algieri added.
The 2024 induction ceremony will undoubtedly be a poignant moment, as the boxing community gathers to honor Corrales’ legacy and the indelible mark he left on the sport. His induction will serve as a testament to his remarkable career and the lasting impact he had on the world of boxing.
