Boxing News: PBC Wins Bid for IBF Featherweight Eliminator
In a significant development in the boxing world, Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) has secured the purse bids for the IBF featherweight eliminator bout between South Africa’s Lerato Dlamini and Ukrainian Arnold Khegai. This fight will determine the mandatory position for the IBF featherweight title.
According to the IBF rules, Dlamini, who is ranked No. 2, will receive 75% of the $71,000 bid, while Khegai, the No. 3 ranked fighter, will receive the remaining 25%. This deal represents a new platform and market for a South African boxer, as it marks the first time a South African company has collaborated with PBC, whose fight cards are broadcasted on Prime.
Dlamini’s trainer and manager, Colin Nathan of No Doubt Management, revealed that they had previously been unable to reach an agreement with Top Rank Promotions, who had bid $65,000 for the fight. Nathan then approached PBC’s promoter, Tom Brown, to secure a better deal for his client.
“The fee that they offered Lerato was simply too low,” Nathan said, explaining his decision to pursue the purse bid with PBC. Dlamini, on the other hand, expressed his trust in Nathan’s abilities, stating, “He said to me, ‘Don’t worry, son, I’ll get you a much better deal.’ And he did.”
Nathan’s No Doubt Management company is a partner to Larry Wainstein’s Boxing 5 promotion company, and it has been responsible for producing the last five credible world championships for South African boxing, including the country’s latest and Africa’s only legitimate world champion, Sivenathi “The Special One” Nontshinga.
The anticipated IBF featherweight eliminator between Lerato Dlamini and Arnold Khegai is expected to take place in July, offering boxing fans a thrilling matchup as the two fighters vie for the mandatory position in the division.
