Boxing News: Shane Mosley Jr. Faces Former Middleweight Champion Daniel Jacobs in High-Stakes Showdown
On July 6th, boxing fans will be in for a thrilling matchup as Shane Mosley Jr. squares off against former middleweight titleholder Daniel Jacobs in a super middleweight bout. The contest will serve as the co-main event to a light heavyweight clash between former MMA stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Mosley Jr. (21-4, 12 KOs), the 33-year-old son of Hall of Famer Shane Mosley, is looking to make a significant career move after a seven-month layoff. He enters the fight on a four-fight winning streak, having recovered from a majority decision loss to Jason Quigley in 2021. Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs), a 37-year-old from Brooklyn, New York, represents a significant step up in competition for Mosley Jr., who has never faced a former world champion before.
“If I beat a two-time middleweight champion, especially when John Ryder went on to fight Canelo – he went on to fight all of these guys because of that fight with Danny Jacobs. That made him a legitimate name as a contender,” Mosley explained.
Mosley’s strategy is to use this fight as a stepping stone to secure a world title at middleweight, rather than super middleweight, where the bout is taking place. “I do want to go back down to 160,” he said. Mosley has studied Jacobs’ past fights, but he’s uncertain about his opponent’s mindset heading into the matchup. “To be 100 percent honest with you, I have no idea how motivated he is leading into this fight,” Mosley admitted.
Nonetheless, Mosley is eager to prove himself against a competitive opponent who shares his drive and ambition. “I’m a competitor,” he said. “I’m somebody that wants to prove myself, so I want to prove myself to the best of my ability. So that’s why I want to fight somebody that is also trying to beat me as well.”
