Boxing News: Lyndon Arthur Secures Split-Decision Victory Over Liam Cameron in Bolton
In a hard-fought battle, Lyndon Arthur emerged victorious over Liam Cameron in a split-decision contest at the Bolton Whites Hotel. The 33-year-old Arthur, now 24-2 (16 KOs), overcame a valiant effort from Sheffield’s Cameron, who stands at 23-6 (10 KOs).
The Fight
The Mancunian Arthur looked sharper from the start, drawing blood from Cameron’s nose in the opening round. However, Cameron found success behind his right hand in the second, landing to the head and body. Arthur responded by crashing in with occasional rights and landing some left hooks to Cameron’s midsection.
The fight took a contentious turn in the third round when Arthur landed a late punch after the bell, leading the referee to deduct a point. This seemed to spur Arthur on, as he demonstrated with an eye-catching left hook.
Cameron had his moments throughout the engaging sessions, but Arthur’s jab and right uppercut proved to be key weapons. The Sheffielder also had a point deducted in the sixth for rabbit punching and was bleeding from a cut near his right eye.
“It was a subpar performance,” admitted Arthur, “but I got the W, and that’s all that matters.”
Undercard Results
Earlier on the undercard, Wickford’s featherweight prospect Tom Welland picked up a four-round 40-35 victory over Argentina’s Alejandro Farias, dropping him in the second round. Additionally, the undefeated Kazak junior lightweight Sultan Zaurbek secured a first-round stoppage win over Argentina’s Roman Ruben Reynoso, while heavyweight Matty Harris stopped Yury Bykhautsou in the second round.
