IBF Featherweight Champion Luis Alberto “El Venado” Lopez to Defend Title Against Former WBO Super-Bantamweight Titleholder Angelo Leo
On August 10th, IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto “El Venado” Lopez, 30, will embark on his third world title fight on the road as he defends his crown against former WBO super-bantamweight titleholder Angelo Leo at Tingley Coliseum in Leo’s hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Having already traveled to Leeds and Belfast to capture the title from Josh Warrington and then successfully defend it against Michael Conlan, Lopez is eager to cement his status as the king of the featherweight division. “On August 10th, I will make it abundantly clear who the true champion is,” the confident Mexican champion proclaimed. “This will be the fourth defense of my world title, and I’m preparing for a great battle against a former world champion like Angelo Leo.”
For his part, the 30-year-old Leo is honored to compete for his second world title, especially in front of his hometown Albuquerque fans. “I couldn’t ask for more,” he said. “I know Lopez is one of the top champions in my division, and a win over him would be massive for me and my city. I’m in the prime of my career and can’t wait to show the world the fighter I’ve become since winning my first world title in 2020.”
Promoting the event, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank stated, “Albuquerque is a great fight city, and we are thrilled to be back with an exciting card headlined by a ferocious world champion in ‘Venado’ Lopez against the hometown kid, Angelo Leo.” The undercard will feature a 10-round welterweight clash between Mexico’s Lindolfo Delgado and Bryan Flores, which Arum described as “a real throwback card in a place where so many classic fights have occurred.”
