Boxing Sensation Lawrence Okolie Aims for Historic Three-Weight World Champion Title
Talented British boxer Lawrence Okolie is setting his sights on an unprecedented milestone in the sport, aiming to become a three-weight world champion. The 30-year-old, who previously held the WBO cruiserweight belt, will take on Lucasz Rozanski on Friday for the WBC bridgerweight title, a feat that would elevate him to a two-weight world champion.
Despite the bridgerweight division being a relatively new and not-yet-fully-accepted category, Okolie is determined to add another championship to his growing resume. But his ambitions don’t stop there. The London-born fighter has also expressed a willingness to face undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, recognizing the opportunity to become a three-weight titlist.
“If the opportunity came [against Usyk], absolutely. I just don’t think it will,” Okolie told Sky Sports. “I wouldn’t mind who it’s against [for a heavyweight title], just to know I’m a three-weight world champion, to know I did it. I could retire, look back, my titles would speak for themselves.”
Okolie’s motivation extends beyond the pursuit of titles and accolades. The boxer recently revealed that he owns a successful seven-figure investment company, indicating that money is no longer his primary driver. Instead, he is focusing on setting an example for his young son, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and determination.
“My son seeing me win these belts is more important than money,” Okolie said. “Money isn’t the motivator anymore. If my son ever searches up my name, it would be about teaching them life lessons, about being knocked down then coming back and winning a world title.”
As Okolie prepares to face Rozanski in his bid for the WBC bridgerweight title, the boxing world eagerly awaits to see if he can overcome this hurdle and continue his quest to become a historic three-weight world champion.
