Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to Make Boxing Comeback Against Darren Till on Tyson-Paul Undercard
Boxing fans are in for a treat as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is set to return to the ring after a three-year hiatus. The former WBC middleweight champion will face off against ex-UFC fighter Darren Till on July 20, serving as the undercard for the highly anticipated Mike Tyson-Jake Paul event at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
According to two boxing officials familiar with the deal, the Chavez Jr. vs. Till bout will take place at a 190-pound catch-weight limit and be scheduled for six three-minute rounds.
Chavez Jr., 38, last stepped into the ring in 2021, securing a unanimous decision victory over David Zegarra in Mexico. Prior to that, he suffered a loss against former UFC champion Anderson Silva. The son of legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, Chavez Jr. held the WBC middleweight title from 2011 to 2012, but his career has since seen a steady decline.
Chavez Jr.’s struggles have been well-documented, as he was perceived as inattentive in training before losing his belt to Sergio Martinez in 2012. He was then dominated by Canelo Alvarez in 2017 and quit on his stool in a 2019 loss to former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs.
The Tyson-Paul event is expected to feature six bouts, with the undercard also including a lightweight matchup between Ashton Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs), a fighter promoted by Jake Paul, and Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs).
