Julian Bridges: From Regional Fighter to Rising Prospect
In a surprising turn of events, Julian Bridges, a relatively unknown regional fighter, has emerged as a promising prospect in the boxing world. Just last Saturday, in the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Bridges pulled off an impressive upset, defeating the well-established prospect Jabin Chollet in a unanimous six-round decision.
All three judges scored the fight in Bridges’ favor, with scores of 59-55, 59-55, and 58-56. This victory not only validated Bridges’ belief in his world-class potential but also provided him with the national exposure he had been seeking.
“We took the fight because it was a great opportunity,” Bridges told BoxingScene. “I thought I was a smarter fighter than him, and I had a better jab than him. I just felt like I was better than him.”
The road to this point has not been an easy one for Bridges. The boxer had a mere week to prepare for his professional debut, in which he knocked out Allen “Chubby” Medina. In contrast, the fight against Chollet (9-1, 7 KOs) allowed him around a month to prepare, which Bridges described as “an eternity by comparison.”
Bridges’ journey to the top has been a testament to his determination and hard work. Starting as a Muay Thai fighter at the age of nine, he transitioned to boxing at 14 and trained under the guidance of the decorated welterweight contender, David Lopez, in Oakland, California, amassing an impressive amateur record of 25-5.
“If I could risk my undefeated record taking a chance like this, I am hoping a promoter could take a risk or a chance on me,” Bridges said, expressing his desire for more opportunities to showcase his talent.
As Bridges continues to rise through the ranks, boxing enthusiasts will undoubtedly keep a close eye on this promising young fighter, eager to see what the future holds for this determined and talented athlete.
