Emerging Heavyweight Sensation Johnny Fisher Poised for British Title Challenge
London, July 2023 – Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that 25-year-old heavyweight prospect Johnny Fisher, currently undefeated at 11-0 (10 KOs), is on the cusp of challenging for the coveted British title if he can overcome the formidable challenge of Alen Babic on July 6th at the Copper Box Arena in Hackney Wick, London.
Fisher, the reigning Southern Area champion, is set to take a significant step up in competition against the hard-hitting 12-1 (11) Croatian slugger Babic. “Johnny Fisher is the biggest ticket-seller in the country,” Hearn noted, “but you need the right opponent for a headline fight. I looked down the rankings and saw Alen Babic and thought, wow, that’s a great fight. But it’s a big step up for Johnny.”
Current British heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, who fought to a rousing draw with Frazer Clarke in March at the O2 Arena, could be next in line for the winner of the Fisher-Babic showdown. “If Johnny comes through this, he moves from the Copper Box and he fights a Fabio Wardley or a Frazer Clarke and, suddenly, he’s selling out the O2,” Hearn explained. “I like Johnny’s chances in a fight against Wardley or Clarke.”
Hearn hinted that a potential British title eliminator could be on the horizon for Fisher, should he emerge victorious against Babic. “Perhaps a British title eliminator comes next, or the winner of [July 20 English title fight between] Solomon Dacres and David Adeleye and then it’s on to the British title.”
This upcoming bout against Babic represents a crucial moment in Fisher’s burgeoning career, as he seeks to transition from the regional level to challenging for the prestigious British heavyweight crown. With the backing of Hearn and a loyal fan base, the young heavyweight sensation is poised to take the next step in his journey towards boxing’s elite.
