Boxing Sensation Catterall Eyeing Undisputed Glory at 140 Pounds
As the boxing world eagerly awaits the clash between Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis, Catterall’s trainer, Jamie Moore, has revealed that his fighter’s days in the junior welterweight division may be numbered. However, Moore believes that Catterall still has a chance to become the undisputed champion in the 140-pound weight class.
Catterall enters the fight against Prograis without a single belt on the line, a situation that the trainer finds particularly frustrating. “Jack should have had all four titles after his fight with Josh Taylor in May, but that win did not provide him with any of the belts he rightfully deserved,” Moore said.
But with the current landscape of the 140-pound division undergoing significant changes, Moore sees an opportunity for Catterall to finally claim the titles he was denied. “With Ryan Garcia’s drugs ban, Devin Haney’s year away, and Teofimo Lopez potentially moving up to welterweight, the stars may align for Jack to pick up the belts he was wrongfully denied,” he explained.
In fact, Moore revealed that Catterall’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has promised the boxer a world title shot after the Prograis fight. “I have no doubt he will deliver that, whether it’s a vacant title because Haney and Lopez are maybe going to be vacating,” Moore added.
The trainer acknowledged that Catterall has struggled to make the 140-pound limit for the majority of his career, hinting at a possible move up to the welterweight division in the future. “The maximum he’s got is three more fights left at 140. I’d imagine then it would be the time to move up before it gets too late,” Moore said.
However, for now, the focus remains firmly on the 140-pound division, where Moore believes Catterall could achieve his dream of becoming an undisputed champion. “To become undisputed champion is so difficult, and two and a half years ago that was taken away from Jack. But the way the landscape is opening up now, you never know. Over the next 12 months, it could actually align that he gets the options, if he can go in there and win a world title, to start getting involved in unifications,” the trainer concluded.
