Boxing Enthusiasts Eagerly Await Inoue vs. Nery Showdown on May 6
The boxing world is gearing up for an electrifying clash between Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue and Mexican power puncher Luis Nery on May 6 at the prestigious Tokyo Dome. According to fellow boxer Jason Moloney, the matchup promises to be an “awesome” and “exciting” affair, with Inoue expected to continue his dominant knockout streak.
Inoue Defends Titles in Historic Tokyo Venue
Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs), the undisputed junior featherweight champion, will be defending his titles in front of a capacity crowd at the historic Tokyo venue, which hasn’t hosted a boxing event since Mike Tyson’s shocking loss to James “Buster” Douglas in 1990. Moloney himself will be on the undercard, putting his WBO bantamweight belt on the line against Yoshiki Takei.
Moloney Predicts Inoue’s Dominance
While Moloney acknowledges that Nery (35-1, 27 KOs) is not the type of fighter to “go in there and try to survive,” he believes Inoue’s current form and punching power will ultimately prove too much for the Mexican challenger. > “Nobody at 122 [pounds] is beating Inoue at the moment,” Moloney said, expecting Inoue to deliver another dominant performance and stop Nery.
Moloney is no stranger to Inoue’s abilities, having faced the Japanese star in a 2020 bantamweight title unification bout, where he was stopped in the seventh round. > “I can tell you firsthand what it is like to catch one of them. It is not nice,” Moloney remarked, referring to Inoue’s devastating punching power.
Nery Expected to Provide an Exciting Fight
Despite the anticipated result, Moloney believes Nery will “bring an exciting fight to the table,” with the two fighters expected to trade heavy blows. However, the Australian believes Inoue’s superiority in a “shootout” scenario will ultimately prove to be the deciding factor.
With Inoue already the undisputed champion at super bantamweight in just two fights, the boxing community is eager to see how he will fare against the hard-hitting Nery in this highly anticipated showdown on May 6 at the Tokyo Dome.
