Exciting News for Boxing Fans: Officials Announced for Fury vs. Usyk Heavyweight Title Showdown
The stage is set for a highly anticipated world heavyweight title clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, as the officials for the bout have been finalized and agreed upon by all parties.
Veteran referee Mark Nelson, from Maplewood, Minnesota, will be taking charge of the proceedings. With an impressive resume of 990 fights under his belt, Nelson has officiated over 100 world title fights. This will be his first time refereeing a world heavyweight championship bout, as his previous experience has largely been in the lighter weight classes.
Joining Nelson in the ring will be a trio of seasoned judges:
- Manuel Oliver Palermo from Spain, who has been an official since 1997 and has judged 234 professional bouts, primarily at the European level.
- Craig Metcalfe from Canada, who has judged 374 professional bouts since 2005, including a heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Bermaine Stiverne.
- Mike Fitzgerald from Jacksonville, Wisconsin, who has an impressive 1,013 fights under his belt as a judge since 1992 and has frequently worked alongside referee Nelson.
“All four officials have been approved by the British Boxing Board of Control, ensuring the integrity and professionalism of the upcoming Fury vs. Usyk showdown on May 18.”
Boxing enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed and fairly officiated heavyweight title clash between these two dominant champions.
