Martin Embraces Biggest Stage Against Gervonta “Tank” Davis
LAS VEGAS – On the eve of his highly anticipated WBA lightweight title challenge against Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Frank “The Ghost” Martin is embracing the biggest stage of his boxing career.
This Saturday’s bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas marks a substantial leap in class for the undefeated 18-0 (12 KOs) southpaw contender. Despite being the heavy underdog, Martin is brimming with self-belief, determined to capitalize on his opportunity and shock the boxing world.
Speaking to BoxingScene, Martin acknowledged Davis’ growing star power and the magnitude of the event, which has attracted a host of celebrities, athletes, and music artists.
“I feel like he just got the culture. I feel like he got all the athletes that back him, the hip-hop artists, the rap industry, the boxing world,” said Martin.
While Davis’ team has questioned Martin’s relative late start in the sport, the challenger insists his hard-fought journey has instilled in him a hunger to make the most of this chance.
“Everybody’s path is different. Everybody’s journey, everybody’s path, all of that is different,” he explained. “I got the real deal, got out the mud. I was fighting in armories my first damn 13 fights.”
Throughout the build-up, Martin has demonstrated a steely determination, doubling down on his self-belief and insisting that he is unfazed by the magnitude of the occasion. He believes he possesses the power, speed, and instincts to pose a unique challenge for Davis, who he feels has not faced anyone quite like him.
“I mean, I just feel that he hasn’t fought anybody who can match what he bring, too,” Martin said. “Somebody with power, speed, good instinct. I just don’t feel he’s fought any fighter like that.”
As for the trash talk between the two camps, Martin is unperturbed, stating, “My thing isn’t to talk and get under no one’s skin. My thing is, I just want to fight and do what I do.” However, he acknowledges that if Davis comes out recklessly, it could play into his hands.
On Saturday night, Frank Martin will step onto the bright lights of the MGM Grand, determined to seize his moment and secure a career-defining victory over one of boxing’s biggest stars.
