Boxing News: Featherweight Prospect Carrington Maintains Undefeated Record, Calls Out Inoue
Featherweight prospect Bruce Carrington continued his impressive run on Saturday night, securing another victory at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. The cultured slugger stopped Bryan De Gracia in the eighth round, marking his 12th professional win with 8 knockouts.
Carrington (12-0, 8 KOs) has been vocal about his desire to face off against two-division undisputed champion Naoya Inoue, one of the greatest lower-weight fighters of the modern era. With Inoue in attendance on Saturday, the undefeated boxer addressed the champion’s presence, stating, “It is interesting he is here and he came to watch. He is leaving now, so obviously he came to watch me.“
The 24-year-old Carrington, who has been dubbed “Shu Shu,” is currently ranked No. 4 by the WBO, No. 7 by the WBC, and No. 12 by the IBF, despite not yet holding a title. He believes his rapid rise to the top of the division has piqued Inoue’s interest, and the featherweight contender is eager to make the fight happen “sometime soon.“
Reflecting on his latest victory, Carrington praised his opponent, saying, “He was a tough opponent. He came to fight.” The win marks the beginning of what Carrington calls “Shu York City,” as he aims to become a marquee attraction in the boxing capital of the world.
