Salita Promotions Unveils Exciting Undercard for July 27 Event
Boxing fans, get ready for an electrifying undercard on July 27 as Salita Promotions unveils an exciting lineup of matchups. The main event will see Claressa Shields challenging WBC heavyweight titlist Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, but the supporting fights promise to deliver non-stop action as well.
Michel Rivera vs. Hugo Alberto Roldan
In a 10-round junior welterweight bout, the 13th-ranked WBC contender Michel Rivera (25-1, 14 KOs) will face off against Hugo Alberto Roldan (22-2-1, 7 KOs) from Argentina. The 26-year-old Rivera, hailing from the Dominican Republic and based in Miami, is coming off a decisive 10-round points win over Sergey Lipinets last November. “My fans can expect a real fast, explosive Michel Rivera,” he promised. “I’ve got a new team, but the same goal. And that’s to be a world champion and dominate the division.“
Roldan, the 31-year-old from La Banda, Santiago del Estero, gave Batyrzhan Jukembayev a scare last September, dropping him in the opening round before losing a split decision. “We’ve fought twice in the United States and lost close decisions because of local favoritism,” he said. “This time we are not leaving it in the hands of the judges.“
Shohjahon Ergashev vs. Julian Smith
In another junior welterweight clash over 10 rounds, the 32-year-old Shohjahon Ergashev (24-1, 21 KOs) will be favored to overcome the challenge of Julian Smith (8-2, 5 KOs). Ergashev, from Detroit via Rakhmon, Uzbekistan, and trained by SugarHill Steward, is eager to make a statement. “I am happy to be back in the ring,” he said. “I look forward to climbing back up the rankings, winning a world title and knocking out my competition. Don’t blink on July 27. I am putting on a big knockout show.“
Smith, born in Blue Island, Illinois, and raised in a tough Chicago neighborhood, has an inspiring backstory. Overcoming challenges of becoming deaf as an infant, he had a successful amateur career before turning professional in 2018. “I have worked hard for this opportunity, and I intend to make the most of it,” he said. “Ergashev is a good fighter, but he is in the way of my dreams. I’ve been the underdog my whole life and I’m good at it. July 27 will be a big step toward my goals and I’m training harder than ever to make that happen.“
Fans can expect a night of thrilling action on July 27.
