Exciting Boxing Match Between Vergil Ortiz and Serhii Bohachuk Potentially in the Works
Los Angeles, CA – In a highly anticipated move, both sides have agreed to a bout between rising stars Vergil Ortiz and Serhii Bohachuk, confirmed Bohachuk’s promoter, Tom Loeffler. The potential showdown, originally slated for August 3, is still in the works, with the date and venue yet to be finalized.
Ortiz (21-0, 21 KOs), the 26-year-old undefeated American, was initially scheduled to face Tim Tszyu on the same date, but Tszyu had to withdraw due to a wound that had not healed in time from his previous fight. This opened the door for Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs), the 29-year-old Ukrainian who is coming off the biggest win of his career, a unanimous decision over Brian Mendoza to become the WBC interim junior middleweight titleholder.
“I think it hit a speed bump with the people actually running the show and the Saudis,” Loeffler said. “So I’m not sure the status of that, but both sides definitely agreed. If it doesn’t happen on that show, I think it’s such a great fight that we’re going to look for a different show to put it on.”
The potential matchup between Ortiz and Bohachuk has the makings of an exciting Southern California rivalry, with both fighters training in the Los Angeles area under renowned coaches. Loeffler sees the cultural dynamic of the bout as an added element of intrigue.
“Trained by Manny Robles here in Los Angeles, and Ortiz trained by Robert Garcia in Los Angeles, that, to me, is probably even better than the Tim Tszyu fight as far as a Los Angeles-based fight,” Loeffler said.
Regardless of the final details, boxing fans can look forward to a thrilling encounter between two of the sport’s rising talents, as Ortiz and Bohachuk aim to showcase their skills and potentially establish a new Southern California rivalry in the boxing world.
