Middleweight Champion Denny Unfazed by Former Foe Cash’s Resurgence Ahead of Title Defense
As the current European middleweight champion, Tyler Denny is gearing up for the first defense of his title against former British champion Felix Cash this Saturday. Despite Cash’s recent inactivity, Denny remains focused on facing the best version of his opponent, drawing from their previous encounter.
“In my mind, I’m training for the Felix who beat Denzel Bentley, because that was when he looked his best,” Denny told BoxingScene. “I have to prepare for the top form of Cash.”
Denny acknowledges Cash’s latest performance against Magomed Madiev, where he was dropped twice, as a potential vulnerability, stating, “If he turns up like that, he’ll get absolutely battered.”
Over the past two years, Denny has established himself as one of the most improved fighters in British boxing. His run to the European title included victories over River Wilson-Bent, Brad Pauls, Bradley Rae, and Macaulay McGowan. Meanwhile, Cash has only competed in eight rounds since their last meeting, leading Denny to suspect potential changes in his rival’s camp following a switch to trainer Adam Booth.
“I’m expecting him to come out fast,” Denny said. “He’s not been active, and against Bentley, he came out quickly and got him out of there. That’s what I think. I’ll be ready for anything.”
Denny’s rise has been remarkable, highlighted by his title-winning stoppage of Italy’s Matteo Signani, which was the main event of a Sky Sports promotion. Now, he will showcase his skills on an even bigger stage, with the bout taking place at the Resorts World Arena, less than 30 minutes from his hometown of Rowley Regis.
“When I quit my job, it was a big risk because I had kids,” Denny reflected. “You have to really believe in yourself, and I did. I went for it, and it paid off. It isn’t finished either. I’ve got a lot more to achieve in this business yet.”
