Newly-Crowned IBF Heavyweight Champion Dubois to Defend Title Against Joshua at Wembley Stadium
On September 21st, newly-minted IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois will make his first title defense against former two-time champion Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium. Dubois clinched the belt after Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed ruler, relinquished the IBF title to allow the two London heavyweights to compete for the coveted prize.
Joshua will seek to regain his heavyweight crown for the third time in his illustrious career, having shared sparring sessions with Dubois in the past. Both fighters are riding high, with Dubois coming off impressive stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, while Joshua secured one-sided victories over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.
“The Wembley stadium event will feature an exciting undercard, including the WBO interim light-heavyweight title fight between the undefeated Joshua Buatsi and Willy Hutchinson.”
Additionally, European champion Tyler Denny will take on the highly-regarded Hamzah Sheeraz in a middleweight clash, and Ireland’s IBF southpaw super featherweight champion will make the first defense of the title he won in May.
Other notable bouts on the card include a middleweight showdown between Liverpool veteran Liam Smith and the hard-hitting Josh Kelly, as well as a lightweight contest between Portsmouth’s unbeaten prospect Mark Chamberlain and fellow undefeated contender Josh Padley.
Though there was speculation about a heavyweight rematch between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke being included on this bill, it is now expected to be scheduled for a separate event on Sky Sports.
