Dublin Native O’Leary Delivers Commanding Performance, Outpoints Veteran Foley
Dublin native Pierce O’Leary, 24, delivered one of the most well-rounded performances of his career, comprehensively outpointing the experienced Darragh Foley in a super lightweight bout.
Foley, a 22-7-1 (11 KOs) southpaw, started strong, using his front foot to keep the powerful O’Leary, 15-0 (8 KOs), at bay. However, O’Leary quickly adapted, landing a hard right hand to the body and a sharp uppercut. A brilliant right uppercut sent Foley, 35, to the canvas in the second round, showcasing O’Leary’s skill and precision.
Though Foley is a tough competitor, O’Leary continued to dominate, mixing his aggression with patience and attacking the body effectively. He hurt Foley badly with a pair of left hooks in the sixth round, as the older fighter began to lose his shape.
“An accidental clash of heads in the eighth round left both fighters with cuts, but O’Leary pushed on, winning a decisive unanimous decision with scores of 98-91, 98-91, and 99-90.”
Undercard Highlights
In the undercard action, Belfast featherweight Colm Murphy, now 12-0 (4 KOs), secured a technical knockout victory over Glasgow’s Jack Turner, 6-2, after the ringside doctor halted the fight in the 10th round due to Turner’s cuts from head clashes.
Additionally, Cuban super featherweight prospect Jadier Herrera, 15-0 (13 KOs), made an impressive British debut, stopping Andres Navarette, 11-2 (2 KOs), in just 161 seconds. Champs Camp protégé Joe Cooper, 1-0, and Cork lightweight Steven Cairns, 8-0 (5 KOs), also picked up victories on the night.
