Boxing Enthusiasts Eagerly Await Dubois’ Showdown with Hrgović
Prominent boxing promoter Frank Warren is hopeful that Daniel Dubois’ newfound grit and determination will be the key factor when the heavyweight contender takes on the undefeated Croatian, Filip Hrgović, in their highly anticipated clash in Saudi Arabia on June 1.
The bout, which is part of the “5 vs. 5” card pitting Queensberry Promotions against Matchroom Boxing, could also see the IBF heavyweight title on the line. Dubois (20-2, 19 KOs) has long been touted as a heavyweight with immense potential, but his loss to Joe Joyce and the controversial stoppage against Oleksandr Usyk had raised questions about his mental fortitude.
“He’s got everything, Dubois,” Warren said. “The one thing people have questioned is that true grit. He showed it last time and, to be fair to him, he showed it against Kevin Lerena when he got clipped and his leg went. He showed some balls to get back into it.”
Warren drew a comparison between Dubois and former heavyweight champion Frank Bruno, who was also saddled with a reputation for being a flawed fighter but finally fulfilled his potential by becoming a world champion in 1995. The promoter believes that if Dubois can combine his undeniable physical attributes with the mental strength he has demonstrated, he has the tools to overcome the challenge presented by the confident and unbeaten Hrgović (17-0, 14 KOs).
“If he can show some grit, I think he wins the fight,” Warren said. “It’s down to him gritting his teeth, going out there and being the governor and using his advantages.”
Boxing enthusiasts eagerly await the clash between the two heavyweight contenders, as Dubois looks to solidify his place among the division’s elite by overcoming the stern test of Hrgović in Riyadh.
