Conner Kelsall Secures Commonwealth Flyweight Title in Belfast Thriller
Conner Kelsall, the undefeated English champion, added the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title to his growing trophy cabinet with a hard-fought majority decision victory over hometown favorite Conor Quinn in Belfast.
The 25-year-old from Doncaster, now 12-0 (1 KO), presented an elusive target in the opening round, quickly stepping around the oncoming Quinn, 9-1-1 (6 KOs), and taking the round with his feints and lateral movement. Quinn, determined to make the most of his home support, had a closer look at Kelsall in the second, landing some shots to the body, but struggled to disrupt the Yorkshireman’s rhythm.
As the fight progressed, Kelsall maintained his disciplined and tactically sound approach, using his superior footwork to keep Quinn at bay. The local favorite did enjoy more success in the later rounds, getting closer and landing more single shots, but Kelsall‘s ability to control the tempo of the fight proved pivotal.
“Despite the fight not being a non-stop thriller, it remained intriguing throughout, with both fighters showcasing their respective strengths.”
Kelsall‘s unwavering commitment to his game plan, combined with his impressive stamina, allowed him to weather Quinn‘s late charge and secure the majority decision victory, with scorecards of 115-114 and 116-112 in his favor.
This hard-earned triumph sees Conner Kelsall add the Commonwealth flyweight title to his existing English championship, cementing his status as one of the rising stars in the domestic boxing scene.
