Christian Mbilli Dominates Mark Heffron in Quick Knockout Victory
Quebec City, Canada – (June 26, 2023) – Christian Mbilli wasted no time in his latest boxing bout, delivering a blistering left hook to the body that put Mark Heffron down in just half a minute on Saturday night.
The 29-year-old Mbilli, born in Cameroon but fighting out of France, has found a loyal following among boxing fans in French-speaking Quebec, where he frequently competes. And the crowd at the Centre Gervais Auto was treated to a thrilling conclusion to an evening stacked with Canadian boxers.
Heffron (30-4-1, 24 KOs) was billed as a credible opponent with a solid record, but he had little time to mount any offense before Mbilli’s devastating punch ended the fight. > “Is this one over already?” asked play-by-play announcer Cory Erdman, to which he quickly answered, “Yes it is!”
Though Mbilli’s (27-0, 23 KOs) impressive record may appear more formidable on paper, he is yet to face a fellow unbeaten opponent or a top super middleweight contender. The 168-pound division remains in a state of flux, with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez largely avoiding the division’s best challengers since becoming the undisputed champion in 2021.
Mbilli has expressed his desire to face Canelo, and the Mexican superstar could find the Cameroonian-French boxer an attractive opponent – one who is credible enough to provide a challenge but perhaps not quite tested enough to pose a serious threat. Other established 168-pounders like Caleb Plant or Jaime Munguia could also emerge as potential future opponents for Mbilli.
In the immediate future, Mbilli is scheduled to take on veteran Sergiy Derevyanchenko in August. At 38 years old and having faced some of the division’s hardest punchers, Derevyanchenko may prove to be the ideal opponent for Mbilli at this stage of his career.
