Boxing Enthusiasts, Prepare for an Explosive Cruiserweight Title Clash in Leeds
On Saturday, the British cruiserweight title will be up for grabs as Cheavon Clarke takes on Ellis Zorro at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England. The highly anticipated bout will serve as the chief support for the rematch between rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall.
Cheavon Clarke, a 2020 Olympian, has been undefeated in his professional career, boasting an impressive record of 8-0 with 6 knockouts. In his last outing in January, the 32-year-old secured a dominant fourth-round stoppage victory over former European titleholder Tommy McCarthy in Belfast, further solidifying his position as a rising star in the cruiserweight division.
Zorro, on the other hand, is coming off a defeat in his last fight, where he suffered his first professional loss against the now two-time IBF cruiserweight champion, Jai Opetaia, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 23rd. The 17-1 (7 KOs) fighter will be looking to bounce back and prove his worth against the formidable Clarke.
Despite the recent setback, Clarke is expecting a determined and dangerous Zorro, who will be eager to make a statement and reclaim his position in the cruiserweight landscape.
“Ellis lost in his last fight, but that’s his business. I’ve got to look at him as a dangerous person, because if I had lost, I’d be thinking, ‘You know what, I’m going to show this lot that I am a big deal.’ So I am looking at him that he’s more dangerous than if he hadn’t lost,” Clarke said.
With the British cruiserweight title on the line and the heated rivalry between the two combatants, fans can expect an explosive and thrilling clash in Leeds. Both Clarke and Zorro will be looking to secure the coveted domestic title and take a step closer to challenging for the bigger prizes in the division.
