Boxing Veteran Ortiz Calls Out Rising Prospect Jared Anderson
In a surprising turn of events, the 45-year-old former world title contender Luis Ortiz has issued a challenge to the up-and-coming heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson. This comes on the heels of Anderson’s recent 10-round unanimous decision victory over Ryad Merhy last Saturday at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Ortiz, an experienced Cuban veteran with a professional record of 34-3 and 29 knockouts, took to social media to respond to a call-out from Anderson’s promoter, Bob Arum. Arum had earlier tweeted, “We’re looking for a heavyweight who thinks he can actually beat Jared Anderson. We need someone brave enough to get in the ring with Jared and give him a real battle. There’s no one he would be reluctant to fight at this point.”
Ortiz, seizing the opportunity, fired back in Spanish, which was later translated on his social media platform. “Bob Arum, if you are truly looking to test Jared Anderson – give him to me. I can assure [it] will be a great fight, and a nightmare for Jared Anderson.”
Despite being 21 years older than the 24-year-old Anderson, Ortiz has remained a formidable presence in the heavyweight division. In his last five fights, he has a 3-2 record, including a win over Charles Martin and losses to Andy Ruiz and Deontay Wilder. Most recently, Ortiz secured a first-round knockout victory over Francisco Cordero in January, ending a layoff of over a year following his loss to Ruiz.
Ortiz, known for his technical proficiency and punching power, could very well provide a stern test for the rising prospect Anderson, who is currently ranked 13th by the WBA. This potential matchup would not only be a clash of styles but also a battle against the effects of Father Time for the experienced Cuban boxer.
As the boxing world eagerly awaits the outcome of this potential showdown, fight fans can look forward to Anderson’s return to the ring later this year, with Ortiz emerging as a viable and intriguing opponent.
