Boxing Fans Eagerly Await Benavidez’s Light Heavyweight Debut Against Gvozdyk
Las Vegas, June 15, 2024 – The boxing world is abuzz as undefeated super middleweight David Benavidez takes on former sparring partner Oleksandr Gvozdyk in a light heavyweight bout this Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Despite the move up in weight class, Benavidez remains focused on a potential showdown with the sport’s biggest star, Canelo Alvarez.
“The more people ask me about Canelo, the bigger that fight gets,” the 27-year-old Benavidez told The Athletic. “I am a little frustrated that the fight isn’t happening yet, but I am going to keep winning, and I’m not going anywhere. Canelo and I will definitely see each other in the ring soon.”
Benavidez, a heavy 7-to-1 favorite alongside Gervonta Davis on the night’s co-main event, is confident he can make a statement by dominating the light heavyweight division until Alvarez is ready to face him.
“I will just take over at 175 pounds until Canelo is ready,” Benavidez declared. While Alvarez has stated a $200 million price tag for the matchup, Benavidez believes the fight can still materialize, citing Tyson Fury’s recent $145 million payday.
Known for his aggressive, fan-friendly style, Benavidez is eager to showcase his skills as a proud Mexican fighter.
“That means you’re a gladiator who fights with his heart to entertain the fans. It’s going to be another great performance on Saturday night,” he promised.
With a loaded boxing schedule and a potential Alvarez showdown on the horizon, fans are eagerly anticipating Benavidez’s light heavyweight debut against Gvozdyk this weekend at the MGM Grand.
