Benavidez and Gvozdyk Exude Mutual Respect Ahead of Highly Anticipated Boxing Matchup
The final press conference before Saturday’s highly anticipated boxing matchup at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was marked by mutual respect between David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
Benavidez, making the leap from the super middleweight division to challenge Gvozdyk at 175 pounds, expressed confidence in his ability to excel at the new weight class. “I know Oleksandr really well,” he said. “I’ve put together a great game plan, and on Saturday I’m going to steal the show.”
Gvozdyk, an established light heavyweight, acknowledged that the extra poundage may actually benefit Benavidez. “He’s a big fighter and he was just a huge super middleweight,” Gvozdyk said. “Right now, we’re an even size. I don’t see any advantage regarding size.”
“I’m just going to resist the monster,” said Gvozdyk, referring to Benavidez’s renowned power.
The two fighters even shared an embrace during the press conference, but both promised victory come fight night. Benavidez, who has been professional for a decade, believes he is ready to capture titles at the light heavyweight division. “I didn’t feel like there was any reason to stay at 168 any longer. My main goal was to win all the belts at 168,” he explained.
Gvozdyk, meanwhile, has enjoyed seeing his face alongside Benavidez, as well as fellow boxers Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin, on the various billboards and displays around Las Vegas.
Both fighters expressed excitement for the upcoming bout, which they believe will be a thrilling showcase for boxing fans. Benavidez promised to put on a dominant performance, saying, “I’m going to be just as dominant as I was in the super middleweight division.”
