German Heavyweight Agit Kabayel Delivers Impressive Performance, Stops Frank Sanchez in Seventh Round
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – German heavyweight boxer Agit Kabayel (25-0, 17 KOs) produced a dominant performance on the undercard of the Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, stopping Cuba’s Frank Sanchez (24-1, 17 KOs) in the seventh round with a well-placed body shot.
Kabayel, a 31-year-old from Bochum, Germany, started the fight quickly and maintained his momentum throughout, ultimately scoring his second consecutive knockout victory in the Middle Eastern Kingdom. “We trained for this result,” Kabayel told BoxingScene after the fight. “You saw my plan, we won the fight, and I am happy.”
“I don’t know why,” Kabayel said when asked about being the underdog in his last two fights. “People must not like me. Every fight I am the underdog. It’s the second time we shocked the world. Who’s next? I’m ready.”
The victory comes on the heels of Kabayel’s impressive win over towering Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov on the Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou undercard in December, a fight in which he was perceived as the underdog. Kabayel’s latest triumph over Sanchez has firmly established him as one of the most in-form heavyweights in the division.
Kabayel, who has predominantly fought in his native Germany, has now participated in the ambitious unofficial heavyweight round-robin created as part of Riyadh Season. “When German TV wants to make a big fight, I’ll be ready to fight in Germany,” the boxer added. “We will see, I hate trash talk, you know. I come only for the sport. We will see who is next, let’s go. I don’t know who I will fight next.”
