Lightweight Sensation Abdullah Mason Elevated to ESPN Main Card in Newark
The highly anticipated eight-round lightweight clash between rising star Abdullah Mason and Puerto Rican veteran Luis Lebron has been moved to the main card of the ESPN broadcast from Newark’s Prudential Center this Saturday. The headlining bout will feature WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson defending his title against Artem Harutyunyan.
Co-main Event and Undercard
In the co-main event, O’Shaquie Foster will put his WBC junior-lightweight championship on the line against Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição. Additionally, lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis will square off against Mexican puncher Miguel Madueño in a 10-round affair.
Abdullah Mason’s Rise
Mason (13-0, 11 KOs), who signed with Top Rank in November 2021, has been widely tipped as a future pound-for-pound talent. The southpaw has won his last three fights by knockout, including a dominant second-round stoppage of Jose Cardenas last November on the undercard of Stevenson’s decision victory over Edwin De Los Santos.
In his most recent outing in April, the 21-year-old Mason systematically broke down Venezuelan power-puncher Ronal Ron en route to a fourth-round TKO. His opponent, the 11-year professional Luis Lebron (20-5-1, 13 KOs), has never been stopped and is riding a two-fight winning streak.
“Abdullah Mason has all the tools to become a superstar in the sport of boxing,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “This is a great opportunity for him to showcase his skills on the main card of a major ESPN event.”
