Boxing News: Queensberry and Matchroom Rivalry Heats Up with Potential Featherweight Title Clash
The ongoing rivalry between boxing promoters Queensberry and Matchroom continues to captivate the sport’s enthusiasts, with the latest rumors suggesting a highly anticipated featherweight title showdown could be in the works.
Matchroom’s WBC featherweight champion, Skye Nicolson, 10-0 (1 KO), is reportedly being lined up to defend her title against Queensberry’s undefeated Raven Chapman, 8-0 (2 KOs). The potential clash could serve as the undercard for the eagerly anticipated undisputed light heavyweight title fight between WBC/IBF and WBO champion, Artur Beterbiev, and WBA title holder, Dmitry Bivol, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on October 12.
Nicolson captured the featherweight title in April by outpointing Denmark’s Sarah Mahfoud and is set to make her first title defense against the Dominican Republic’s Dyana Vargas, 19-1 (12 KOs), on the undercard of the IBF welterweight title fight between Jaron Ennis and David Avanesyan in Philadelphia next Saturday.
Meanwhile, Chapman will return to the ring on July 27th, featuring on the Joe Joyce vs. Derek Chisora event in London. She will take on the unbeaten Colombian, Yohana Sarabia, 10-0 (6 KOs), as she continues her quest for a potential world title opportunity.
“The introduction of Saudi Arabia to the boxing landscape has opened the doors for some of the sport’s biggest names to collaborate, potentially paving the way for the highly anticipated Nicolson-Chapman clash. If the fight materializes, it would mark a significant shift in the sport, as there has been a noticeable absence of women’s bouts on the undercard of these high-profile events.”
