Italian Boxing Great Tommaso Galli Passes Away at 83
Legendary Italian boxer Tommaso Galli has passed away at the age of 83. Galli, known for his impressive accomplishments in the ring, had a remarkable career that spanned multiple weight divisions.
Galli’s boxing journey began in the bantamweight division, where he won the EBU (European Boxing Union) title in 1965 by defeating Mimoun Ben Ali. Despite losing the title in a rematch, Galli managed to outclass Walter McGowan in between the two fights.
In 1969, Galli showcased his versatility by capturing the EBU featherweight title, stopping Spaniard Manuel Calvo in the 15th and final round. Galli successfully defended the title against Calvo in a rematch before eventually losing it to the renowned Jose Legra.
Galli’s success continued in 1971, when he claimed the EBU super featherweight title with a points victory over German Lotha.
