Boxing Veteran Danny Garcia Eyeing Rematches with Spence, Thurman
Philadelphia native Danny Garcia, a seasoned professional boxer with a record of 37-3 (21 KOs), has expressed his desire to avenge his previous losses to Errol Spence Jr. and Keith Thurman before retiring. The 36-year-old Garcia has not stepped into the ring since his majority decision victory over Jose Benavidez Jr. in July 2022.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Garcia articulated his ambitions, stating, “I would love to fight Errol Spence for a rematch, I would love to avenge at least one of my losses before this is all said and done.” The former two-weight world champion also revealed that he would even prefer a rematch with Thurman over Spence if given the opportunity, as he continues to compete at the 154-pound division.
Garcia, who is currently weighing in at 168 pounds with his clothes on, acknowledged that he has been in communication with PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) head honcho Al Haymon and has been occupied with the arrival of his third child, which has kept him away from the ring. However, the veteran boxer remains determined to make a comeback, emphasizing, “I want to fight, but right now it’s a timing thing. I’m not getting younger, but I’m also not damaging my body.“
Throughout his illustrious career, Garcia has faced a formidable lineup of opponents, including Spence, Benavidez, Thurman, Amir Khan, Shawn Porter, and many more. Reflecting on his resume, Garcia confidently stated, “I could take two years off and these guys still won’t have my resume.“
As Garcia navigates the next phase of his career, boxing enthusiasts eagerly await his return to the ring and the potential rematches that could cement his legacy as one of the sport’s most accomplished fighters.
