Cuban Boxer Robeisy Ramirez Seeks Rematch with Rafael Espinoza After Saturday’s Fight
Robeisy Ramirez, the 30-year-old Cuban boxer, is determined to secure a rematch with Rafael Espinoza after his fight against Brandon Leon Benitez this Saturday. Ramirez sacrificed his WBO featherweight title in December when he unexpectedly lost to Espinoza in a majority decision, which was considered one of the best fights of 2023.
Since then, Espinoza has made the first defense of his title against Sergio Chirino Sanchez earlier this month and has even been mentioned as a potential future opponent for the great Naoya Inoue. Ramirez, however, believes he would be a tougher opponent for Inoue than Espinoza, given the Mexican fighter’s propensity for a toe-to-toe war.
“I suppose what happened was that his team advised him to do other fights before. At the end of the day it’s a business, and I suppose that his team advised him that way. Of course I want the rematch – I’m looking to fight the best, and whatever happens in this fight, he has a title. I’m coming for him,” Ramirez said.
While Ramirez is focused on his upcoming fight against Benitez, he remains optimistic about the prospect of a rematch with Espinoza, as he believes it would be an even more entertaining fight than their previous clash.
