Middleweight Boxing Prospect Troy Isley Targets Titleholders After Latest Victory
Middleweight prospect Troy Isley has his sights set on championship glory after securing a decisive victory over amateur rival Javier Martinez on Friday night at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The 25-year-old Isley (13-0, 5 KOs) now holds a prominent position in the highly competitive middleweight division, widely regarded as one of the sport’s most prestigious weight classes.
Isley’s 10-round unanimous decision triumph over the previously undefeated Martinez marked his third fight under the guidance of renowned coach Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, who also trains boxing stars Terence Crawford and Keyshawn Davis. The young contender believes his move from former coach Kay Koroma to McIntyre has been instrumental in his career progression, providing him with the confidence and guidance to eliminate self-doubt and become a “much stronger and more complete fighter.”
“BoMac has been a huge help,” Isley said in a post-fight media scrum. “He’s given me confidence and helped eliminate my self-doubt.”
Isley’s impressive performances against undefeated opponents Martinez and Vladimir Hernandez have earned him a prominent position in the middleweight division, with the 2020 U.S. Olympian now setting his sights on a potential showdown with unified champion Janibek Alimkhanuly.
“After my last fight, they started calling me a contender,” Isley said. “I’m ready to step up and face the champions now.”
Recognizing the similarities between his style and that of recent title challenger Terrell Gausha, Isley has been sparring with reigning WBC and WBO middleweight champion Carlos Adames, who defeated Gausha by unanimous decision, in an effort to gauge his progress and prepare for a potential future bout with a titleholder.
Prepared for Future Bout with Janibek Alimkhanuly
“Javier is a tall, lanky southpaw, similar to Janibek,” Isley said. “This was the perfect fight to prepare for him.”
With two or three more fights in his sights, Isley is determined to secure a shot at the middleweight crown, particularly against the unified champion Alimkhanuly. The rising contender’s dominant performance against Martinez has further cemented his status as a promising title challenger in one of boxing’s most talent-rich divisions.
