Boxing Prospect Zaurbek Set to Showcase Increased Aggression in Upcoming Bout
Manny Robles, the experienced boxing trainer, is determined to bring out the best in undefeated Kazakh super-featherweight prospect Sultan Zaurbek. Zaurbek, with a 17-0 (12 KOs) record, has arrived in California earlier this year, and Robles has quickly recognized the young fighter’s technical abilities and potential to rule the 130-pound division.
Robles Wants Zaurbek to Embrace Aggression
However, Robles believes Zaurbek needs to step out of his comfort zone and display more aggression and intensity in the ring. “He’s a good, technical fighter,” Robles told BoxingScene. “We’ve gotta bring that dog out of Sultan.”
Although Robles won’t be in Zaurbek’s corner for his upcoming bout against Argentina’s Roman Reynoso (22-4-2, 10 KOs) in Bolton this weekend, Robles’ son, Manny Jnr, has made the trip to work with the unbeaten Kazakh. Robles wants Zaurbek to showcase the increased urgency and willingness to dig deep that they have been instilling in him during their six-to-seven-week training camp.
“We have to push him,” Robles said. “We have to take him to uncomfortable places and put him in uncomfortable situations. Not just in the gym and in the ring but everywhere else. Everything that goes into getting a fighter ready for a big fight.”
Potential to Dominate the Super-Featherweight Division
The super-featherweight division is brimming with talented fighters, and Robles believes that once Zaurbek learns to assertively impose his will on his opponents, he has the potential to establish himself as the fighter to beat in the weight class. “That’s what we’re looking for,” Robles said. “It’s one fight at a time and you can’t change a fighter from one day to the next. My job is to make him better.”
