Brandon Figueroa Vows to Unleash Pent-Up Frustration against Jessie Magdaleno
Brandon Figueroa, the rising featherweight contender, has vowed to unleash 14 months of pent-up frustration when he steps into the ring against Jessie Magdaleno this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event is set to coincide with the Cinco de Mayo weekend festivities.
Figueroa, who last fought in March 2022, earning a decisive unanimous decision over Mark Magsayo, has been eager to get back in action. During his time away from the ring, he has witnessed his fellow champion, Stephen Fulton Jr., secure a lucrative bout against Naoya Inoue, while Luis Nery, a previous opponent he had defeated, was installed to challenge Inoue next.
“I feel great,” Figueroa expressed. “I want to put on a show for the Mexican fans. I know the atmosphere is going to be insane in the arena. I just can’t wait. It’s been so long since I fought, and I just can’t wait to give you guys a show.”
Figueroa is known for his unique, fan-friendly fighting style, which he promises to showcase against the experienced Magdaleno.
“I have a very unique style – a unique style that the fans love. I’m a fan-friendly fighter. Everybody knows that you’re going to get action; all-action; a war. We’ve come here to fight; come here to give a good show, and I just can’t wait.”
Looking beyond this bout, Figueroa is eager to secure a rematch with Fulton or challenge for a world title, stating, “I’m here to fight whoever, but most importantly I want to fight for the belts, and if Rey Vargas isn’t available let’s get the rematch [with Fulton].”
As for the highly anticipated main event between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Jaime Munguia, Figueroa predicts an exciting clash between the two Mexican superstars.
“Fans are going to win this one for sure,” he commented. “They’re both Mexican fighters. They both leave it all in the ring. Everyone knows that Canelo never disappoints; Munguia comes to fight and he’s hungry. It’s going to be an amazing main event. Amazing card all around. The fans are going to win, but I’m gonna have to go with Canelo.”
