Heavyweight Contender Jared Anderson Adds SugarHill Steward to Training Team Ahead of Bakole Clash
In a significant move, heavyweight contender Jared Anderson has brought on renowned trainer SugarHill Steward to his coaching staff ahead of his highly anticipated August 3 showdown against Martin Bakole. The 24-year-old Anderson, who boasts an impressive 17-0 record with 15 knockouts, recently met with SugarHill, the nephew of the legendary Emanuel Steward, and they have since commenced their collaboration.
The bout against Bakole, who is ranked number one by the WBA, is set to take place on the undercard of the star-studded event headlined by Terence Crawford’s clash with Israil Madrimov at 154lbs. The event, which will be held at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, is the brainchild of Turki Alalshikh, the influential Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia. Alalshikh is believed to have recommended SugarHill to Anderson, stating, “> I want to thank Jared Anderson for taking my advice and seeking out to coach and trainer Sugar Hill to train him for his upcoming fight.”
Anderson, hailing from Toledo, is currently ranked fourth by the WBO, fifth by the WBC and IBF, and 13th by the WBA. While the young talent has yet to face a true elite opponent, he has notched impressive victories over former IBF champion Charles Martin and most recently against Ryad Merhy.
The addition of SugarHill Steward, known for his work with heavyweight king Tyson Fury, is expected to provide a significant boost to Anderson’s preparations for the formidable challenge presented by Bakole. The 31-year-old Bakole, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and based in Scotland under trainer Billy Nelson, has a stellar 21-1 record with 15 knockouts, including victories over the likes of Sergey Kuzmin, Tony Yoka, and Carlos Takam.
This bout represents a significant step up in competition for Anderson, who had previously been trained by Darrie Riley. The highly anticipated matchup on the Crawford-Madrimov undercard promises to be a thrilling addition to the boxing schedule.
