Boxing News: Regis Prograis Ready to Rebuild and Revive Career for Third Title Run
Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) is determined to bounce back from his recent defeat and make another run at a junior welterweight world title. The 35-year-old southpaw slugger remains firmly in the mix of the stacked 140-pound division, which features the likes of Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez Jr., and former foe Josh Taylor.
“Every time someone fights at 140 pounds, the division is shifting,” Prograis told BoxingScene. “They look bad, and then they look good. The cards keep shifting, but I am still in the mix.”
After becoming a 140-pound titleholder in 2019, Prograis is aiming to regain a world championship for the third time in his career. He is confident in his ability to bounce back, stating, “The greatest fighters have done it, which I plan on doing, too. My goal is to become a three-time world champion.”
Prograis listed Dalton Smith, Jack Catterall, and Subriel Matias as potential next opponents, all of whom are signed to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, the same promotional company as Prograis. The former champion is eager to get back into the mix and compete against top-level opposition.
“Give me a comeback fight and let’s get into them. I want to fight good fighters. I want the belts,” Prograis said. “Boxing is crazy, and sometimes you don’t get the fights you want.”
With a renewed focus on self-improvement, Prograis is determined to reclaim his place at the top of the junior welterweight division. “I’m self-reflecting to get better,” he said. “It makes no sense to risk your life if you don’t want to get better. I’m about investing in myself. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be a world champion once again.”
