Hernandez Delivers Knockout of the Year Contender, Stops Schramm in Sixth Round
In a thrilling clash of seasoned junior middleweight sluggers, Vladimir Hernandez delivered a knockout of the year contender by stopping Guido Schramm in the sixth round of the main event on Wednesday Night Fights at ProBox Events Center in Plant City, Florida.
Hernandez, who accepted the fight on short notice, knocked out Schramm with a perfectly timed straight left hand at the 2:59 mark of the sixth round, potentially earning him an end-of-year award. Broadcaster Paulie Malignaggi described the bout as featuring excellent “two-way action,” with both fighters landing powerful blows from the opening bell.

The 35-year-old Hernandez (17-6, 7 KOs) from Stockton, California, consistently landed his crisp straight left hand, which ultimately led to the stoppage. Schramm (16-3-2, 9 KOs), a 28-year-old from Moron, Buenos Aires, Argentina, had an effective right hand, making the exchanges evenly matched and difficult to score.
In the fifth round, the momentum began to shift as Hernandez, known for his fitness instruction background, increased his already high volume of punches. While Schramm landed eye-catching shots, he found himself on the ropes more frequently.
The dramatic conclusion came in the sixth round when Hernandez, fighting from the southpaw stance, landed a straight left hand that sent Schramm crashing to the canvas face-first. Schramm attempted to rise, but referee Emil Lombardi called a halt to the action, securing Hernandez’s victory and a highlight-reel knockout.
Hernandez continues his underdog story with another upset triumph over a highly regarded opponent.
