Tyson vs. Paul: A Sanctioned Professional Fight
In a surprising turn of events, boxing legend Mike Tyson has confirmed that his highly anticipated bout with social media star Jake Paul has been officially sanctioned as a professional fight. The bout, scheduled for July 20th, will be contested over eight two-minute rounds, with both fighters wearing 14oz gloves.
Tyson, an International Boxing Hall of Famer, boasts an impressive professional record of 50-6 with 44 knockout victories. The 57-year-old former heavyweight champion last stepped into the ring in a professional capacity in June 2005. In contrast, his 27-year-old opponent, Jake Paul, has a record of 9-1 with 6 knockouts, having suffered his sole defeat against Tommy Fury last year.
The fight has been officially sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR), ensuring that the outcome will be added to the fighters’ professional records. This development has added a sense of legitimacy to the highly anticipated matchup, which was initially met with skepticism by some in the boxing community.
According to Nakisa Bidarian, the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, the decision to have the fight sanctioned as a professional bout was driven by the desire of both Tyson and Paul to have a definitive outcome. Bidarian also praised the TDLR and Holden Boxing for their efforts in ensuring the fight’s sanctioning.
The Tyson-Paul showdown will be the co-main event of a card that will also feature the highly anticipated rematch between Irish star Katie Taylor and Amanada Serrano, which will be broadcast on Netflix.
